From Cuya to the 10th stage of the Dakar Rally - Iquique

Dream come true!!

Early start out of Cuya and an easy ride to Iquique. Our Italian friend still all the way with us, we stopped at the first garage as we entered the big city of Iquique and once again met the nicest people. In a matter of minutes the Chilian guys, Diago and the crazy Javier took us under their wing and took us up into the dunes where the 10th stage would pass. We loved the 30 odd kilo's sand road into the dunes...our Italian friend swear at us a bit for this, but he managed well.

Some real cool pics that my mate Byron took.....

We slept in the magical city of Iquique and could feel the Dakar vibe where ever we went, but nothing compare to Arica....

Hi guys,
Nice to see you're still alive & kicking.Looks like some awesome dirt roads you guys have traversed on your way through Peru.
Similar roads to the ones we experienced in southern Chile/Patagonia.
You'll have very good knowledge by now of the effect of altitude on the temperatures right up there.I reckon we were often riding with a chill factor of around minus 20 degrees once over the 4000 m mark.Heated grips meant #@$%^ all!!
I often thought i might have frostbite in the ends of my fingers. As soon as one goes down a bit it becomes bearable & then up once again .One can ride for hundreds of kms. up there at 4500 m!!Quite #@$%^^&ing amazing!
What a plus to get into the DAKAR bivouac! We managed to catch just the last day of the DAKAR into Buenos Aires after we'd cleared our bikes there.Y ou can tickj that one off as unique and something you'll remember even when you reach my ripe old age.
Have you guys split as i only see Roelof and Byron and their bikes?
Or are the other two just not that photogenic??
You're gonna really enjoy the ride through to B/A.Just try to go through northern Argentina (through Purmamarka/ Cafayate). It's well worth it.
Safe riding guys. You're close to finishing a ride which will remain tattoed into your brain forever!
