A Quick in and out of Bolivia....Copacabana into Peru again.

After our 'first' quick visit to Bolivia, we were out into Peru again. The plan was to zoop over to Tacna (still in Peru) for the night so that we could have an early start for Iquique on the Chilian side. The Dakar Rally was in our sights! We decided, its Dakar, we should have our own little Dakar for the day as there was a 'lekker kortpad' on the way to Tacna.....or that is how it seems on google maps and the trusty old Garmin. An early start from the border post where we once again met these two friendly travellers. The one guy recognise our GP plates as he is been living in SA (East London) for 30 years. They're planning to do Patagonia to Alaska. At least they are driving the best....

Check out our filling station....

We started climbing the Andes once again, this time we planned to cheat a little bit and used the popular Inca medicine....some Coco leaves. Apparently this is how they survive the hectic altitudes and this keep their heart rates in tact, also it gives you extra stamina and energy. Mirth or not, this surely helped us on the gruelling 160km dirt road we started on. We climbed to a height of 4870metres, temperatures of only 2 degrees....but it was fun....until a flat at 70km to go and our daylight running out.

PHOTO'S BROUGHT TO YOU WITH BLOOD, SWEAT, A FEW WIPE OUTS AND A BIT OF TEARS!!
